Basics of Renewable & Alternative Energy, Technolgoies, Challenges and Canada’senergy Future

Who Should Attend

The course is suitable for anyone interested and wants to understand basics of renewable energy, available technologies, and Canada roadmap for transition.

Course Description

Energy is essential to our society to ensure our quality of life and to underpin all other elements of our economy. From wood to coal to oil & gas, the sources of energy on which civilization depends have always changed as technology advances. Renewable energy technologies offer the promise of clean, abundant energy gathered from self-renewing resources such as the sun, wind, earth, and plants. So, there is a lot of talk about renewable energy these days, but few of us really understand its basic science, the limits, and the great promise it holds.

Climate change is arguably the greatest challenge of our times and the move towards renewable energy provides part of the solution. Thiscourse provides a straightforward account of the issues and opportunities of this great transition, engulfed in the context ofeconomic and environmental drivers, and future horizons.

Now renewable energy sources like wind, solar and hydro energy becomingcheaper and more competitive every year.Growth in renewable energy will further accelerate as electric vehicles become less expensive than traditional automobiles. Understanding of this renewable source of energy and the implications of the energy transition will prepare us for the many changes ahead.

The course will also discuss how possible energy futures might unfold for Canadians over the long term. Canada Energy Futures projections based on assumptions about future trends in technology, energyand climatepolicies, energy markets, human behavior, and the structure of the economy.
